In 1989 she became a famous skater after winning the "Skate America" competition. Tonya ended up quitting skating in 1994 following a scandal. She then turned to boxing. Tonya began her professional career as a boxer after 2003. She became an international star following her appearances on film and television. The thing that made her a popular national star was the incident in 1994 where her primary rival Nancy Kerrigan was mysteriously attacked just before the 'National championship.' Tonya used her notoriety and fame to her advantage so much and rewritten the history of women's ice skating culture. The story of her life and accomplishments became a part of many academic assessments and in 2017 an autobiography titled "I, Tonya' was released.
